I just love this day. It is the day Our Lady was able to release all that pent up emotion and declare:
"For He Who is mighty hath done unto me a MIGHTY thing!"
This is the day she could openly rejoice with someone who did not wonder, or ask questions, or give her "knowing looks" of disapproval. She was loved and hugged and blessed by her older cousin Elizabeth.
And did they compare stories of how it felt to be carrying such amazing life and did Mary bathe Elizabeth's swollen feet? And did Elizabeth give Mary advice on how to tell Joseph of this wonderful gift upon her return to him?
This is just a day of comfort. Mary comforts Elizabeth with joy and wonder. Elizabeth comforts Mary with full understanding. It makes me so happy for Our Lady. This was a day of unalloyed happiness in a life that was to be laden with the heavy cross of our salvation. I am so glad she had a day full of conversation, reassuring hugs, laughter, and the joy of friendship.
