Bread of Delight

This is Marconi Bread.  It is baked at a small, ancient bakery in a section of our city which everyone knows affectionately as "The Hill".  Where all the Italian restaurants and grocery stores reside.  This bread, I am sure that anyone in this city will agree, should be its very own food group.  It is tasty beyond compare.  It is good all by itself, with butter and jam, as the sopper~ upper of sauces and gravies.  It comes in a simple, white paper bag and when you stick your nose in the bag it comes out happy, happy, happy!

We got some yesterday for my son's birthday dinner of homemade spaghetti.  And at Mass this morning I thought of that bread as I received the Bread of Life, Jesus.  In all reverence, I think Jesus to be the Marconi Bread of Life.  And by that I mean He is not only a savior but a beautiful savior.  We don't just eat Him to live, although that is the main thing!  We delight in Him.  He is beautiful, and kind, and filled with joy.  If we could see His eyes we would probably die of wonder at the fire and gentleness coinciding there.
He meets us where we are.  He can be simple and plain when we just need doctrine to sustain us. He can come with "jam" as he consoles us in our lonely times,  He soaks up all the grace of Heaven and feeds it to us.

People who only eat food as fuel and nothing more just aren't living!  Their senses are asleep!  So, too, with Christ and us.  He is our God and our Beauty.  He wakes up our soul with wonder and delight.  We can share Him with great enthusiasm with others.  We can say, "Come!   Taste and see the goodness of the Lord!  It is like no other bread you have ever tasted.  For it is the Bread of Heaven!"

Thank you Mr. Marconi for your lovely, tasty bread.  May Jesus bless you.
